The Pig & Fiddle
The Pig is The Pig is The Pig, it’s a one off. Everyone in Bath old enough to drink knows the Pig and they have probably passed many happy summer evenings drinking with friends in our beer garden. Six hand pulled local real ales and ciders, plus a great range of lagers, wines and spirits make it a place worth finding, but it’s the staff and the customers that are the real stars. Despite only being 20 years old The Pig feels like a proper pub, all are welcome, as long as you know how to behave. Young and old are treated with respect and welcome to join the large and loyal regular trade, it is a source of great pride that we don’t have to have regular door security. We work hard at generating an atmosphere that does not attract trouble. The Pig is not a quiet pub by any means, in fact at the weekends it can be a bit of a squeeze, but it is generally a good natured, happy place to be and we intend to keep it that way.
Apart from the fabulous heated garden with over 20 large tables the Pig is famous for its Tuesday night live music sessions with Henry Ray and then live rugby and football games on Sky Sports throughout the year. Many will remember watching Bath win the European Cup against Breve or more recently Liverpool and Manchester United winning Champions League finals. Sport at The Pig is an event itself. Sporting memorabilia can be found all over the walls; team shirts, competition skis, and even an oar from our Olympic rowing eight can be seen alongside the murals, flags, comic book tables and comfy leather sofas.
In 1989 Tranters fish restaurant was bought by the local Ashvine Brewery who transformed it into The Pig and Fiddle. Twenty years on the same company that started The Pig still owns it and that may be the secret, continuity and an understanding of what our customers really want. The Pig evolves but it does not need wholesale change or rebranding every few years like so many high street, formula pubs.
Food at The Pig has always been just as it should be, i.e. proper pub food. Our fabulous burgers are by far and away our most popular menu items, but great steak pies, salads, wraps and our excellent breakfasts, plus much more, means there is something for everyone. It is hard to beat a fantastic homemade burger and chips, a pint of whatever you fancy and a great game of football.
The Pig really is a bit of a treasure in Bath, long may it continue.
